Better safe than sorry!

Buying alloy wheels is still one of the most popular and easiest ways of jazzing up your car. No other component of a comparable visual effect can be attached so fast to a car and makes a modification so easy.

Prior to any purchase

Heed one basic rule: only the right technical component report will get you through a road check. So answer the following questions for yourself before you buy anything:

 Do the wheel’s technical specifications fit my car?
 Does it come with a ABE or ECE approval for my car?
 Do I want “Plug & Play“ or is an extra effort OK for me?

Only if all 3 questions can be answered satisfactorily, you can avoid unpleasant surprises. Speaking of safety: all alloy wheels manufactured by DEZENT are state-of-the-art and almost exclusively produced in accordance with the highest European quality criteria.

ABE or ECE

Acronyms rule! To make them more comprehensible, here is our guide to this alphabet soup.

ABE stands for “Allgemeine Betriebserlaubnis“. This is mainly issued in Germany for a certain component like, e.g., special wheels, springs, sport-type exhaust systems etc. As long as the installation or attachment instructions therein have been complied with, the car’s operating licence remains valid. Always carry the component’s ABE with you in your car so that you can show it to the police when asked for it.

An ECE approval does more or less correspond to an ABE but is valid all over Europe. No TÜV inspection or entry in the vehicle documents is required since the after-market parts’ specs are in line with OE-Standards. The advantage over an ABE: No documents have to be carried, since the components themselves bear a control number. Alloy wheels’ ECE approval is constituted by a release in accordance with ECE R 124.

The ECE approval mark (also E mark) indicates it: The wheel does not have to go through any further tests or administrative procedures, for example by the TÜV.

What do I do if the police ask me for a certificate?

It often happens that during routine road checks drivers have to provide the wheels’ technical component report. In many European countries as a driver, you have to carry it in your car at all times and show it when asked. So why not simply put it in the glove compartment right away? If it is not part of your purchase, many brands provide a download version. The only exception are rims with an ECE approval. As some countries in Europe have different, country-specific regulations, we recommend you always carry the respective certifications.

How do I find ECE rims for my car in the DEZENT rim configurator?

After entering the make, model, type and engine, your vehicle will appear. Now you will also see various filter options. Select the category "ABE+ECE" in the "certificate" filter. This way you will only be shown the rims with ABE and ECE certificates for your vehicle.

The green thumb

In an effort to simplify a highly complex subject the configurator has been equipped with a green RECOMMENDED filter. This way, the selection is 100 % technically approved, requires no body works and fits perfectly on the respective car. In addition, the configurator shows the technically matching tyres with the respective certificates (VTA, ECE). If users desire something more extravagant, combined with modifications on the car, they can do so by simply adjusting the certificate filter function settings.
