Change your tyres for safe winter driving

Autumn is at the doorstep. This means that it’s time not only for hot chocolate and cozy jumpers but also for another very important thing: changing your tyres! In the following, you will learn why this is so important and how you can do it and be trendy at the same time.

Why change wheels in the first place?
It’s simple: Not only is it mandatory to change summer wheels to winter wheels, it’s also crucial for road safety. When the leaves start to fall and temperatures drop, it gets slippery outside. Winter tyres have a special tread that provides improved traction on wet, snowy, or icy roads.

When is the right time?
Autumn can be moody. Better not hold off on that tyre change. A good rule of thumb is to fit winter tyres in October. That way, you will always be on the safe side, ahead of the first frosty day.

What do I need to look out for?
For all DIYers:

Checking tyres: Check your winter tyres. Are they in good shape? The tread should still be deep enough. The minimum depth in Central Europe is 1.6 millimetres. However, as always, there are exceptions. Not enough tread means it’s time for new tyres.

Checking rims: Have you ever inspected your rims in more detail? No? You absolutely should, because they won’t get any prettier or technically better with sun, salt, gravel, or other environmental impacts. Rims are the shoes of your car. When it comes to style factor, why not don a very pretty set for a change? – What fits my car?

Checking sensors: Does your car have a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS)? And if yes, which one? Now may be a good time to seriously consider whether you would like to pamper yourself with the services of a specialized workshop. More on that below.

Get the tools: You will need a car jack, a torque wrench, and a lug wrench.

Safety first: Ensure that you park on a level surface and place wheel chocks behind the wheels you are not changing.

Jacking up the car: Use the car jack to lift the car. Place it at the designated locations as per the instruction manual.

Removing the wheels: Loosen the lug nuts with the lug wrench and remove the summer tyres. Now, put on the winter tyres and hand-tighten the bolts.

Lowering the car: Carefully lower the car until all the wheels touch the ground. Use the torque wrench to tighten the bolts according to the manufacturer's specifications.

Checking the tyre pressure: Don't forget to check and adjust the tyre pressure for the winter tyres.

A decent DEZENT recommendation
More and more drivers are opting for a quick, safe, and easy process when it comes to rims, tyres, and sensors. Due to the numerous possibilities, exceptions, and legal requirements, every "gearhead" should carefully consider whether a visit to an automotive specialist workshop is wiser than working in their own garage. Many automotive specialists such as tyre dealers, workshops, and dealerships offer convenient solutions at TOP conditions.

Conclusion
Changing your wheels in autumn is not only important for your safety but also a cool way to give your car a new look. Additionally, as a responsible driver, you make the roads safer. Safe travels! 🚗💨 And pamper yourself with the services of your specialized workshop!
