Investment of more than € 7 m in new paint shop

DEZENT invests roughly € 7.3 m in a new pre-treatment and paint shop at the Neuenrade production site in Germany, thereby consequently strengthening their product range. The state-of-the-art paint shop meets not only all standards and environmental regulations, it also complies with the highest vehicle manufacturer OE standards.

Eleven steps to reach the finish

In an eleven-step pretreatment system the alloy rims are cleaned to shine, made passive and then coated in a separate powder cycle with a 100-percent recovery.

Passivation is a surface technology process involving the targeted creation of a protective layer on a metal material, which results in preventing the corrosion of the basis material.

State-of-the-art environmental protection

All steps are carried out without using chrome and in closed circuits by means of a special wastewater system. Thanks to state-of-the-art technology this enables DEZENT to operate the new paint shop more environmentally-friendly.

Following the cleaning process, the rims are cleaned with a high-performance vacuum cleaner to render them free of dust and particles, and then prepared for the actual painting process. In the so-called paint furnace a first coat, the primer coat, is melted unto the alloy rim in powder form. Further paint shop components include a horizontally run wet coating line applying a two-layer wet coat by baking.

This coating method is used for materials that are unable to absorb colours and paints. By slowly heating the rim the actual colour carrier compounds with the primer coat to result in extra-firm protection. A transparent sealing, the third coat, forms the first line of defence against environmental influences.

Facts and figures:

• The retrofitting of the new paint shop took 28 days

• Roughly 120 tons of powder and paint are used annually

• The most popular paint is brilliant silver

• The average batch size for a one-colour paint process comprises 500 rims

• Changing the colour takes roughly 30 minutes for powder paint and for wet paint about the time it takes for four rims to drive into the wet coating line
