Off into spring. With double efficiency.

Even if in some places winter doesn’t seem to be admitting defeat yet, realistically it’s only a matter of a few days when spring will push through and warmer temperatures will enter our daily lives. At temperatures above 7-10 degrees Celsius summer tyres should also be part of daily life, given that their braking performance differs significantly from winter tyres.

Winter tyres can get dangerous in summer
For cost reasons or sheer laziness, some car owners leave their winter tyres on throughout the year. By doing so, they must take into account a couple of disadvantages: a longer brake path, poorer handling, and higher wear and tear.

Brake path
On dry roads, cars with winter tyres brake slower than those with summer tyres. This is attributed to the lower effective contact area of winter tyres. This may sound strange, but it’s true: the more tread winter tyres have, the longer the brake path. Various braking tests from 100 to 0 km/h show that the difference between winter and summer tyres can be up to 16 metres.

Handling
When it gets hot, the driving stability of winter tyres becomes less. The tread of the, compared to summer tyres, softer rubber mix becomes even softer, resulting in lower grip.

Wear and tear
Heat and dryness give a hard time to the softer mix of winter tyres. That’s why, they wear out faster in summer. Moreover, the higher rolling resistance of winter tyres leads to higher fuel consumption.

Tyre pressure measuring systems. No battery lasts forever!

2021 will be an interesting year as regards tyre pressure monitoring sensors (TPMS), not only for many workshops and tyre retailers but especially for car owners. Since November 2014, it is mandatory that all new cars belonging to the M1 class have TPMS. Due to the battery life of approx. 6-8 years, depending on your driving style, in 2021 you will have to consider renewing your TPM sensors (direct system).

Switch to summer tyres & TPMS renewal. All in one go.
The mandatory installation of TPMS has an impact on the change of tyres. Use this opportunity to inquire with a workshop you trust.

But it’s working…
Even if your batteries still work DEZENT recommends exchanging all relevant components of a TPMS valve during every modification but even more so when changing your tyres, in order to ensure the functioning of the system and its safety. While snap-in (rubber) valves must be replaced completely, clamp-in (metal) valves at least require checking the rubber gasket, screw cap, valve stem and valve cap and, if required, replacing them.

DEZENT recommends sensors from the ALCAR brand – TÜV-certified.
All ALCAR sensors feature strongly improved battery life by means of smart battery management and high-speed approvals (Vmax) for clamp-in models of up to 300 km/h. The new ALCAR SENSOR generation guarantees OE quality. Tested and certified by the TÜV SÜD under very high requirements and the toughest conditions. Ask your mechanic about ALCAR sensors.

Sustainability with TPMS. Double benefit.
CO2 emissions can be reduced by lower consumption, which protects the environment in the long run. The amount of fuel a car consumes, amongst other things, can depend on tyre pressure: lower pressure decreases rolling resistance, resulting in higher consumption. If the tyre pressure is monitored by a TPMS it will help save fuel. Good for the environment and your pockets. Moreover, the right air pressure improves tyre mileage. Longer lasting tyres lead to less used rubber on landfills, which is also beneficial for the environment as well as your pockets once again.

Rim, tyres and TPMS. Everything at a glance.
The DEZENT rim configurator offers you the best overview for the current tyre changing season. When selecting your desired rim design a display will immediately pop up to inform you about the legally permissible tyre dimension, and you will also get to know whether and which TPM sensor matches your rim. It can’t get any neater. But see for yourself!
